Faisal Mosque, Islamabad

Islamabad is the capital city of Pakistan (previously it was a port-city called Karachi) as it is easily accessible from all parts of the country.

Islamabad translates to 'City of Islam'. The region also has a far more wide significance for all of humankind as Islamabad Capital Territory (which is in the northern Punjab region), is thought to be one of the earliest sites of human settlement in the Asian continent. Faisal Mosque is not only the national mosque of Pakistan, but is also the fifth-largest in the world - truely living up to its homes' namesake and aims of sharing cultural practices with the world with its scale and beauty. The architect of the structure, Vedat Dalokay states he tried 'to capture the spirit, proportion, and geometry of Kaaba in a purely abstract manner.' Meaning that Dalokay (and Pakistan by extension) is forefront in the modern renaissance movement and reimagining tradition and culture to carry them into the future with humankind. The Kaaba as a center point for Islam and pilgrimmage; represents a physical signifier of belief, trust and understanding in a higher power. Telling us that culture and traditions that we deem important enough to share from generation to generation are the parts of life that reveals the creativity that connects us. Located at the Margalla Hills, the location of Faisal Mosque is significant in displaying its importance and a source of pride for the nation of Pakistan. The Mosque is visible from miles away and sits on higher land compared to the city of Islamabad it faces. The idyllic aesthetic that is aimed to caputre the essence of the nature is complete with its green mountain ranges - collaging something new with something that has existed, and will continue to.
